What to bring to your first class – Water and a Towel.

What to wear to your workout – For your class workouts, you will want to wear clothes that allow you to move freely and feel comfortable. You don’t need to have the latest style. A t-shirt and shorts or stretchy pants are perfect.

What shoes to wear - Depending on your class, workout shoes might be optional. Ask your gym but some disfunctions bare feet can sometimes make your workout easier. Flip Flops are a no go because you might slip and slide, and the instability might get you hurt.

When to arrive at class - Come to class early and find the place to put your keys and street clothes in a relaxed environment. Get a mat or any equipment that the instructor says you will need for class today. If you have any physical issues talk to the instructor before class. Then you don’t have to worry about being called out in class for not squatting deeply enough if you have knee issues.

When to begin your new fitness program - There is never a perfect day or time to start working out. You will be sore, and you might walk funny after the workout, but remember you can’t excel at anything you don’t start.

Start one thing at a time - To be successful at a new workout program, pick your challenges. Few people can completely redo their entire life and stick to it. If you are going to start going to the gym, don’t drop from a 3,000 calorie diet to a 1,000 calorie diet. Unless you are under a doctor’s supervision give yourself a break.

Decide what your goal is before you get started - Do you want to look great in that dress at your sister’s wedding or do you want to be able to climb a hill/mountain with your friends/kids/family? Knowing what your goal looks like will help you tailor your training plan to suit your individual preferences.
